Jim Angell concentrates his practice in debtor/creditor
issues and bankruptcy law. He is a Business Bankruptcy
Specialist, certified by the North Carolina State Board of
Legal Specialization and by the American Board of
Certification, and a Certified Public Accountant,
certified by the state of North Carolina. He is also
certified to conduct mediations in North Carolina Superior
Court by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission.
Jim has almost two decades of experience representing
creditors and debtors in out-of-court workouts and Chapter 7
(liquidation) and Chapter 11 (reorganization) bankruptcies. He has appeared in business
Chapter 11 cases involving such diverse industries as real
estate development, construction, manufacturing and
production, retail sales, restaurants, and service
industries. He is also experienced in representing
individuals in Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 cases involving
complicated tax issues and domestic issues. His background
in accounting and taxation allows him to review and
understand business problems in a way that many lawyers
cannot.
Having the experience of representing debtors, creditors and
serving as a Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 trustee provides him a
unique advantage in representing clients in bankruptcy.
Having represented all of the interested parties, Jim is
aware of the goals, risks, strengths and weaknesses of each
of them, and, therefore, the tools available for litigating
and negotiating. Jim's litigation skills, learned both in
and out of Bankruptcy Court, have served him well.
Jim serves on the North Carolina State Bar Board of Specialization, and as a
member of the North Carolina Bar Association CLE Committee.
Jim has served as chairman of several committees of the
North Carolina Bar Association Bankruptcy Section.
