Successful Remote Mediation

Just as we have all had to make adjustments to our daily lives to keep ourselves and those around us safe as we navigate these uncharted waters of the COVID-19 pandemic together, our dedication to our clients’ success and work for them continues with some modifications and the benefit of technology. I recently conducted my first mediation since COVID-19 changed the world, serving as mediator with all parties in different locations, brought together via phone.

Typically, mediations take place in a conference room where the interested parties, their legal representatives and the mediator are together, sitting around the same table, working towards a resolution.  In this case, I worked with seven parties and their attorneys over the phone, working to find a middle ground for both sides to settle disputes over various bankruptcy issues.

Due to the professionalism of the attorneys involved, I am pleased that they were able to reach a compromise to the satisfaction of all parties – and we did not all have to be in the same room for them to reach a resolution.

Our doors remain open and our work for our clients continues amid changes in response to COVID-19. Coming together remotely – working with the attorneys and clients, all of us embracing technological opportunities – created the setting for this case to settle. This mediation is a great example of we can work through these new times together, and we can stay safe while getting results.
